Soup Season Wrap Up

Believe me when I say that we don't look that happy now. It's more of a look of exhaustion.

I can't believe that we made it through another soup season. We are tired, burnt out and also happy that it is over. So without further adieu, here are the numbers for Harry and Jim.

These are rough estimates. I made 1.615 sandwiches. That includes half and whole sandwiches. If you were to put those sandwiches end to end, they would stretch out to 928 feet long. That's over 3 football fields boys and girls.

Soup. We ended up selling about 82 gallons of soup. That includes cups of soup and bowls of soup. That's 16.4 five gallon buckets of soup to be slinging all season.

And finally a number for Karen at the 1910 Sip House. We made 132 Nibble boards. That's our version of a charcuterie board that we only do for them.

I cannot believe that we are in the middle of October already. It seems like it was yesterday that we started the soup season and now it is over. I looked out from my window and noticed that most of the leaves had already fallen. Even looking back on my blog I realized that I haven't blogged since mid August.

In September we did have a week off where we decided to take the camper to Medora, North Dakota. It is a small touristy town in western North Dakota and if you ever find yourself in this neck of the woods, you need to stop there. Medora sits at the entrance to Theodore Roosevelt National Park. This area is also called the "Badlands". It is beautiful out there.
Pictures just don't do it justice. Maybe it's the photographer.

The real reason we wanted to go out there is because the new Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library opened up this past July.
Very cool building.

If you go there get your tickets early. Since it is new it does sell out. The library, as the locals call it, details the life of Theodore Roosevelt. It is very interactive and fun to walk through. Once you show your ticket, they give you a little wrist band with a medallion on it. We didn't know why at first. We thought it was your proof that you paid. Next you walk up to a kiosk. There they take a picture of you and then they want your email address. Weird. Again not knowing why. Then you go in and walk through the library. So many things to look at as they explain Theodore's life. So if you are in the area talking about his life in the Badlands you will find what looks like a electronic poster of him in the Badlands. If you touch the bracelet they give you to the poster it then puts a picture of you as if you were back in time in the Badlands.
Lisa being the pioneer she was meant to be.
Me contemplating the meaning of life.

Every phase of Theodore's life has an electronic poster. He was the Secretary of the Navy at one point. So this is what I would look like in the Navy back in time.
What does this rope do?

They talk about his presidential life also. This is what I would look like as President. By the way I look like an awesome president.
I must be signing something very important.

It was a very informative library and also fun to see. Lisa usually doesn't like museums because they are "boring" in her words but she did like this one. I think she may have even learned something, also. After the Library we drove around Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

We camped in the park during our two night stay.
This wasn't our original site. In fact when we pulled into the park to camp it was around 12:30 pm. The check in/check out time is 12:00 pm. So we got to our site and the previous people were still in the site but the people were gone. Just their camper was there.
Dumbasses.

Lisa walked back to the camp host and told them about it. They were able to move us to another site, a better site I might add. People need to check out when they are supposed to.

A drive through a national park out west would not be complete without a buffalo jam.
More dumbasses.

The park drive is beautiful. We saw buffalo, of course. Wild horses. Lots and lots of Prairie Dogs. But I did not see one Antelope on the entire trip. A fun fact about the wild horses. a few years ago they wanted to remove the wild horses because they are not a native species. But there were so many complaints about doing that, that they decided to let them roam free. I can see both sides of the argument, but still don't care one way or the other.
Lisa wishing there was an Antelope nearby.

See, I was there.

It was a fun couple of days off without having to think about soup, When we got home we got a surprise visit from Jethro and Bambi. (Jim and Barb from South Dakota) They were passing through on their way to Wisconsin for a wedding. We were glad they could squeeze us in for a couple of hours. I even mentioned that to them. I said, "Why do we(Lisa and I) spend days at your house but they only spend hours at ours?" We shower on a regular basis. Brush our teeth. Unlike Jethro who still reeks of pork rinds and bourbon. Things that make you go "hmmmm...." In fact I wish they would stay with us more often because they bought us drinks and dinner and we didn't even have to "put out ". That was so nice of them. We took them to Troll hunt. A favorite pass time up here in the north woods.

Now for anyone who knows Jethro and Bambi, you know they don't do anything or go anywhere if it doesn't involve alcohol. So we had to take them to a brewery. Bucks Mill in Detroit Lakes MN.

First time Lisa and I have been there and it was a very nice place. The rest of the evening involved "Painkillers" and a lot of laughing. As quickly as they came they left. Bright and early the next day. Jethro was telling me they had to get to Wisconsin that day because he had a BOGO coupon for beer that was going to expire at midnight.

Now that we are off of work we can spend some time with the grandkids. We took them to a pumpkin patch/corn maze not far from our house. They had fun but I will admit one thing. For a 6 and 8 year old, they are terrible navigators. They got us lost in the corn maze. Thanks to my native instincts and way finding abilities, we survived to live another day.
Kettle corn to the survivors!
The one year old was not impressed.

That's it for today! Stay frosty my friends. I have to Google how to get the smell of pork rinds and bourbon out of our house.
